Jury Duty

It's something we all have to do every couple of years. I spent this afternoon reading Harry Potter 4 and waiting for my juror number to be called. It started with a parking adventure. I thought I would be able to leave the car in the parknig lot near the Museum of Natural Science and take the train downtown for free. Unfortunately the time was limited and I wasn't willing to take the chance that a parking ticket would cost less than paying for parking downtown. Now that I live nearby, getting downtown is no big deal. It took about 10 minutes to drive down to the jury assembly room and another 10 minutes to park - on the top level of the garage.

The jury assembly room is a big auditorium where we all wait. We started with filling out some paperwork, then watched a video on jury service. As I waited I was able to get online with the Treo and posted messages on twitter. As numbers were called, and people left the room, I read more of my book and thought about when I would be going back to law school. It would be great to get past the waiting and see more of the legal process. Problem is that I'm self-employed, so I don't get vacation or sick leave that I could use while I'm sitting on a jury.

So anyway, I spent three hours today sitting in an auditorium waiting for my jury number to be called, but it was not. Maybe in another six months...
